Gitte is an international tax lawyer by background, (MA Tax Law 1990, PhD Law 2007, University of Groningen). She has led a wide range of consulting, research, and aid projects in South-East Asia and Indonesia in particular. She has also been a team leader of research projects for Australian LNG, Woodside Petroleum, Wesfarmers, the Energy Institute Beijing, AusAID, DFAT, the Ministry of Finance Indonesia, the Asian Development Bank, the Ministry of Justice Vietnam, the Ministry of Finance East Timor, the IMF, the GIZ, the Australian Federal Attorney General’s Department, and the Australian Tax Office. In 2017 she was appointed as a supervisory board member of Capabuild (a joint venture between the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, several large multinationals, and Tax Justice Network) and is now Chairperson of its Supervisory Board and Chair of the Executive Board of the Capabuild Foundation. Her research interests currently focus on the not-for-profit sector, public finance, as well as use of foresight in taxation and education. She is a visiting lecturer at various universities, and an assessor and supervisor of academic research and a PhD thesis. Gitte lives in Western Australia.
