Foresight exercise on the future of the semiconductor industry

Thanks to the initiative of the OECD secretariat, my colleagues and I had the great pleasure of leading
a group of over 60 people from administrations in 24 different parts of the world through a tabletop
exercise on the future of the semiconductor industry these last two days. It was outstanding to see
that all participants were very engaged in the process from start to finish, including both those who
only recently started to focus on this sector.
It is fair to say that insights included the importance of continued collaboration between economies,
and the significance of anticipating the inevitable spill-over effects – be it on things like skills and the
environment, or on other economic sectors that are related to semiconductors.
