Theatre fiction
by AdrianI just read this piece on “imagining future public careers via fiction”.
https://atelierdesfuturs.org/q264-imaginer-les-metiers-publics-de-demain-via-la-fiction/
It fascinated me particularly having already been part of the creation of the scenario that served as
the background for a theatre piece written for the Deutsches Theater in Berlin (thanks to @Jutta
Doberstein for that !).
In this case, the authors have taken design fiction a step further –having real people apply for the
jobs the authors invented (with clear indications that this was an exercise in fiction), and then having
the candidates write motivational letters which allow the designers to understand what other people
project into such a career (which does not yet exist) and to see what they could find attractive about
it! As they point out in the article, this is almost a form of “improvisation” (a sort of theatre like
performance very widespread in French speaking countries, but which I sense is not so well known in
English speaking countries). In any case, yet another creative use of fiction – but with real people, not
just actors – in foresight.
